THURSDAY 10TH APRIL

FULL CONFERENCE AGENDA 08:00 - 19:00

The below schedule highlights the main areas of the conference. Keynote speeches and fireside chats are taking place in the main room, with Workshops and Catalyst Conversations within additional breakouts.

A catered plant based lunch is provided, as well as refreshments throughout the day.

  • Kick off your day with a gentle walk through Brighton!  RSVP HERE TO BOOK YOUR SPOT

This is a guided walk led by Hannah Keartland.

How might we manage the tension of growing our business when we know the world needs degrowth?

This walk along the seafront is designed to give you time and space if you’re a business leader and struggling with the following challenges:

    • Wanting to grow your business … and increasingly understanding that the world needs rapid degrowth

    • Feeling pressure from others to grow your business (e.g. other people on the senior leadership team, investors)

    • Wondering what it means to be a successful business leader in a world with degrowth

If this is how you’re feeling then you’re not alone – we're speaking to a lot of business leaders who are grappling with the same challenges.

We’re creating a safe, relaxed space where you can learn from and share with others in a similar position. Please join us for a walk beside the sea before the busy-ness of the Better Business Summit Brighton kicks off.

Whilst leaving plenty of room for conversation and reflection, Hannah will loosely facilitate the walk to help you leave with new ideas, practical actions and in the knowledge you’re not alone.

  • Doors open - come in and get registered.

  • Join us for breakfast, where there will be hot drinks and tasty pastries a plenty!

A great chance to kickstart your day and make those valuable connections.

  • Join us for the first session of the day, hearing key insights from BBN Founder Hannah Cox on how to make the most out of the event!

  • We will enjoy 3 × 15 minute keynote speeches from:

    • Lauren Rosegreen, SOS-UK. Lauren will be talking about the Racial Action on Climate Emergency’s (RACE) recently released report on how the environment and conservation professions are amongst the least diverse in the UK.

    • Chrissy Levett from Creative Conscience. She will be exploring how creativity and positive purpose can build better teams and a more resilient business

    • Bud Johnston from Boxless. Bud will discussing how organisations can move Beyond Box-Ticking and into Meaningful DEI actions.

  • A chance to grab a hot drink and reflect on the first few sessions.

We will also be running an optional Speed Networking session for attendees who wish to make some new connections

  • This exciting fireside chat will see two founders discuss their experiences in running highly purpose driven organisations.

Join us for an open and honest conversation between Mike Turner, co-founder of Bird & Blend Tea Co, and Alex Young, Director of Projects.

This session explores the rewards and real challenges of growing a business with purpose. As Bird & Blend continues to scale, Mike will share insights into staying true to values, navigating tough decisions and maintaining a positive impact through change.

With Alex guiding the discussion, expect candid reflections, practical takeaways and thoughtful dialogue on what it really takes to build a business that balances commercial success with doing good.

  • The Projects team have a surprise activity for us!

  • A break to digest all of the morning’s knowledge over a complimentary plant-based lunch.

This is included in your ticket price.

  • In the next two hours you have the option to choose between 3 breakout sessions in three different spaces:

    • Raising Thoughts, Questions and the Bar; with B Lab’s New Standards For B Corps and B Leaders in the B Corp Community, join B Lab UK’s afternoon session which will introduce the new standards (launching this month) and open the floor to a lively discussion on what you and the B Corp Community need to level up and meet the new bar for certification. It’s a great chance to connect with fellow B Corps, swap thoughts on what these changes mean for your business, and contribute towards B Lab UK’s offering of support.

    • We have an incredible Authentic Storytelling Workshop being ran by Abb-d Taiyo from Driftime. Attendees will explore what defines their spheres of action, and how you can create a strategy to communicate this across the next 12 months.

    • We have Molly Gould running People Versus Planet - the climate card game to get you uncomfortable. Like the popular card game that you don't play with your nan at Christmas, People Versus Planet, hosted by Molly from Effable, will explore the climate crimes and conundrums while letting you, our audience, fill in the blanks. Come along, play along, and get serious about climate and business.

  • A chance to grab a hot drink and reflect on the first breakout sessions.

  • Join Emily, the Communities Lead for Hubbub, as she talks through Hubbub’s approach to campaigns, in particular how they support communities to come together to problem solve in ways that have positive social and environmental impact.

Hubbub are an award-winning environmental charity that’s all about inspiring action that’s good for the environment and for everyone. Hubbub brings businesses, organisations, and community groups together to create campaigns that make it easier and more possible for all of us to make choices that are good for the environment.

  • Join Hannah Cox and the BBN team for the closing session of the day.

  • Join us on the rooftop (weather permitting) to network and catch up with other attendees!

FRIDAY 11TH APRIL

DAY IN NATURE 09:00-17:00

We will be taking attendees into Nature through a trip to the rewilding project at Wilderlands, an ancient natural woodland in Sussex, delivered in partnership with our friends at Locate Productions!

This incredible day is centred around the incredible work at the rewilding project, where you’ll find practical and inspiring hands-on activities that will help this beautiful natural landscape thrive for generations. Guests arrive at the barn on site initially for hot drinks and snacks, before embarking on a guided walk from the guardian of the site Huw Williams who will talk about the rewilding project, discussing how to bring nature, art and communities together.

We will then do some group activities that support the restoration of the site and give you a chance to reflect and reconnect with the natural world, through wildflower sowing. This is also a great way to meet your fellow attendees and build stronger relationships with other purpose driven businesses who attended the conference!

We then reconvene for a catered, plant based lunch at the barn. All produce is locally sourced and grown in Sussex from The Sussex Peasant and made entirely by local chefs and local businesses.

Transport will be included for attendees. We try to minimise carbon emissions by bringing the majority of guests on site this way, although there is space for some cars on site but we would highly encourage car sharing in this instance and only if it is really necessary.
